A young talent who graced the world of Indiedom in no time is the gorgeous Skylar Nevaeh. She is a pro-active musician and visual artist with a sweet, empathetic attitude, thinks deeply more than the average ladies of her age. She captivates her followers with her fresh and unique music. I invited her to choose to answer from my list of prepped musical questions, which I am excited to share with you:
Briefly introduce yourself:
"I am Skylar Nevaeh, a female music producer from The Netherlands. I have always had a love for music. I started producing my own music in 2017. This is when I started learning to produce music with my computer. Now I make all my songs electronical. The genre of music I produce is chill, bedroom pop and a bit of jazz. Completely independent, I release my own music."
Favorite quote or epiphany as a musician:
"Two quotes I once read are really important to me. The first one is: 'you can lay on the floor for people to walk over you and they will still complain you’re not flat enough.' I love harmony and have always been a people pleaser naturally. However, I try to let go of it more now that I started making my own music.
Just in general, pleasing anyone is hard. Everyone can find some mistake or fault in something. I feel like letting go of wanting to please anyone but yourself is one of the best things ever. Also, I always strive for perfection. Which is hard because like Salvador Dalí once said: 'have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it' and this is so true. What is perfection? To everyone it’s something different."
How do you organize your thoughts and come up with great tracks?
"Usually I write down ideas for lyrics beforehand. Then I use a piano loop and sing over it to blend the lyrics with the music. Sometimes it comes naturally, like my song “11:11”, most of the time it’s a whole process of finding out what fits and what not. My favorite part of making a track is the arrangement: adding extra instruments and making sure everything fits well together."
What exactly do you like about making music?
"What I like about making music is that I can share my creative ideas. I love to make everything as a whole piece come together. Cover art, music, lyrics, looks, the music video, it’s all connected to each other."
If you go to Mars and are only allowed to bring 20 musical selections to play and nothing else, who would those artists be?
"That’s a good question. I would choose music from some of my favorite artists, which are Tinashe, Selena Gomez, ZAYN, The Weeknd, Sabrina Claudio and Solange. I would probably bring their albums: Rare from Selena Gomez, Aquarius from Tinashe, Truth Is from Sabrina Claudio, Icarus Falls from ZAYN, My Dear Melancholy by The Weeknd and When I Get Home by Solange."
What is HOT music to you?
"Hot music to me is music with a unique element to it. Something in which you can hear the artist put their heart and soul into. Something with some experimental sound. Also, music that has a story, in which the artist thought out everything from the music to the cover art. It can actually be anything. I don’t have a specific artist or genre I think makes hot music. It could be any song, I can know it when I first hear it or I have to listen a couple of times and completely fall in love with it."
What would you tell your favorite band/artist if you happen to meet one day?
"Such a hard question. I am actually pretty shy especially when I first meet someone. I would want to tell them that I love their music and their music was like a supportive friend during hard times. Which I think is what music is all about and what most of my favorite artists their music makes me feel like."
If you are not doing music, what are your other interesting diversions?
"I am a huge lover of art and I love making visual art and videos. For my latest release called 'Amy' I also made my own music video. Filming it, editing it and thinking about the looks and meaning of the video is very exciting to me. I also make collage art, which is art consisting of multiple pictures blended together. Most of the time I create something surrealistic."

What are your top 3 most favorite tracks from your discography?
"My number one favorite track from my discography is '11:11', because that song came to me naturally. I recorded the vocals for it in one take. I had this idea in my head for a while, but didn’t write down any lyrics for it. I was listening to the piano of the song and came up with the lyrics along the way.
My other favorite songs are the songs that speak most of my personality and are less experimental. For example my album 'No More Violins' is very experimental as I didn’t know yet what style I was going for. So my other two favorite songs are 'Amy' and 'Not Lost.' 'Amy' because I love the storyline of the song, it’s about a girl who finds back her strength. 'Not Lost' brought me more towards the style I am producing now and is my favorite song from my album Pretty Saxy, which is my first album with me singing on most of the songs."
BONUS Q: What one word best describes you as a musician?
"It would have to be dreamy, because this theme and vibe returns in most of my songs. But it also describes me as a person, because I love to dream, have lots of goals and walk with my head in the clouds believing my dreams will come true."
